Wilhelm Ostwald’s country estate was first placed on the central register of listed monuments in GDR back in 1975. Nowadays, it is included in the index of listed buildings in the major district town Grimma.
The cultural monument, consisting of the “residential house of Wilhelm Ostwald [. . . ], the villa of Walter Ostwald [. . . ], the garden house of Wolfgang Ostwald [. . . ], the caretaker’s house [. . . ] and burial place of Wilhelm and Helene Ostwald in the quarry, as well as the extensive villa garden (garden monument) along with other properties, namely an outbuilding with labratory [ . . . ] and two other outbuildings, plaster constructions, partly with half-timbered construction, the villa garden with herbaceous gardens, solitary trees, forest park, tomb, ponds and orchard” is deemed to be an outstanding importance for the history if science, horticulture and architecture, and is also of high public educational value.
